Syzygy Renewables Delivers UK's Largest Landlord-Funded Rooftop

on Tue 17 Oct
Syzygy Renewables has assisted LondonMetric Property Plc (“LondonMetric”) in successfully delivering the UK’s largest landlord-funded rooftop solar PV installation on a distribution warehouse.
Syzygy advised and acted as project manager to LondonMetric on the 1MW solar PV installation at its 726,000 sq ft distribution warehouse let to Dixons Carphone on Newlink Business Park, Newark. The solar installation was completed in [September] 2017 and covers 66,000 sq ft (approximately the same size as the White House).
The installation at Newark is expected to reduce Dixons Carphone’s annual grid energy consumption at the warehouse by c.15% and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 500 tonnes each year. Purchasing energy generated by the solar scheme will also protect Dixons Carphone from volatility in energy prices and allow it to benefit from longterm operational cost savings.
As part of its sustainability strategy, LondonMetric works closely with its occupiers across its 12 million sq ft estate to support them in reducing their carbon emissions and occupational costs, whilst improving the sustainability credentials of its buildings. It recognises that occupiers are unlikely to make large renewable investments in buildings that they lease, and that working closely with its occupiers is important to progress these types of projects.
Solar Advanced Systems Limited was the appointed contractor on the installation, and Smeaton Wood Energy helped to develop the opportunity for both Dixons Carphone and LondonMetric.
John Macdonald-Brown, CEO of Syzygy Renewables said: “Sustainability is an important focus for LondonMetric and it engages actively with its customers to find solutions that are mutually beneficial. We were delighted to be appointed by them on another project following their first large scale installation at the Primark distribution centre in Islip in 2015.”
Tom Pinder, Development Manager at LondonMetric said:  “Dixons Carphone is a key occupier of ours. We have worked in partnership with them for many years and are delighted to have successfully delivered this solar installation.
"Syzygy Renewables has helped us to deliver several solar projects. They understand our position in meeting both our sustainable and commercial property needs and provide us with practical and independent advice."
Guy Bowden, Energy Manager at Dixons Carphone said:  “Increasing energy efficiency and reducing our carbon footprint is a critical element of Dixons Carphone’s overall sustainability strategy. We’re delighted to partner with London Metric and Syzygy Renewables in delivering a Solar PV installation of this scale which will help reduce our reliance on grid electricity and natural resources at this site for many years to come.”
